The Excitement Of Horse Racing
on Feb.19, 2009, under Gambling
Just think about it, betting on the ponies has to be a rush, so many people worldwide do it on a daily basis, and over a billion dollars is shelled out betting on the ponies too. That fact is pretty much known. But what makes watching a group of horses thunder around a track so addicting and amazingly exciting? Let’s look at this incredible event and see what we uncover about it?
The level of the excitement around the track is incredible. First let’s look at the different sounds you have such as: the crowd noises, the voice of the announcer, the horn that starts everything, the gates opening, the horses thundering down the track, all these sounds of the excitement fill the air and envelopes you until you are feeling it too. You can’t do anything but join in all the emotion. There are also the different aromas of the track too. People wearing cologne, beer, money, normal body order type smells, food, and yes the fragrant smell of horse manure lends to the track’s atmosphere.
Betting the ponies can turn into an addiction, just like all of the gambling activities, but there is an added element. People are not only betting against the track, but also other people, and of course the jockey and the horse.
There are multiple methods of selecting the winner or the loser when placing your bet.
You can leave the track very rich, or you can leave very broke if you aren’t cautious, and one thing is for sure you will not leave because of boredom! Nowadays there are the off track betting facilities or OTB, that have come about to profit from the excitement, for the individuals that cannot get to the track. These places can be enjoyable but you are still missing actually being there. The powerful effect of the aromas are gone and that is a major catalyst of the whole atmosphere of the track.
Just like watching the football game on TV, while having your favorite beverage is not the same excitement level as being at the stadium, with the smell of hot dogs and beer along with the other food smells. You truly have to experience the track in person to get the full effect.
There is definitely something to the yelling and the screaming along with the other folks at the track. That is after you have carefully read the stats of the horses and their jockeys, and thought for a bit before walking up to the window, to place your hard earned cash on your horse of choice for either winning, placing, or showing. Then the excitement of watching your choice dashing around the track in the hopes they will pay off big for you, and let you win big.
That’s an over all experience that has to be experienced to be believed and it can only be fully appreciated at an actual racetrack. You won’t get it on your overstuffed couch. You won’t get it fully at an off track betting room and you won’t get it at the local pub watching it on the big screen. You get it from actually being there and taking part. Just like all the other fun things in life.
