There are many things you need to learn in order to be a good poker player, and one of the most important lessons is knowing when it is time to stop playing. There will be times when you really want to keep playing, but you have to get up, while other times you will want nothing more than to leave a game behind but you won’t be able to. This is all part of the process of becoming a world-class player. Anytime that your table has run out of luck or the money isn’t coming your way is a good time to call it quits.
Moving Beyond the Top 10 Hands

When you first begin playing poker it is best to stick to the top 10 hands, as this makes learning and winning the game easier for a novice. Once you have mastered the basics, though, you should consider moving onto the more advanced hands; otherwise your play will become too predictable. Anyone who wants to become a true poker player has to begin playing other hands besides the top 10 hands.
Lose to Win

Even if you are one of the best poker players around you still have to lose on occasion. Just ask some of the WSOP winners and they will tell you that losing is part of the process. Whether it is a single hand or leaving a game out of pocket, losing at poker is a rite of passage. Losing may not be an enjoyable prospect, but it will make you a better player in the long run.
