In the poker industry, we observed massive growth over the last few years. Many people are cashing in on this boom in the industry. Let’s see the ways people are cashing big checks in the poker industry.
Before we look at that, let’s look at why poker has taken off. We can identify 3 separate events that caused the expansion in action at the poker tables. Alright, listed in order, these are the things that occurred that created the increase in poker activity.
The first event was in 1994 when polish poker player, inventor, Henry Orenstein conceived, and patented, the technology for the “hole card cam”. With this invention the audience gets to know the pocket cards that the players have while the hands are being played out. The beginning for “pocket cam” took place in 1997 on the british show late night poker.
Poker had been on TV since the 70’s, but had a very small viewing audience. This was because not seeing the hole cards the players were holding, you couldn’t follow what the players thinking. The pocket camera made poker on TV incredibly entertaining.
The next event that moved us closer to the poker boom was the arrival of internet poker. The original online poker room was opened in 1998. People are now able to play poker in the friendly surroundings of virtually any place they can imagine. Internet poker will show a growing player base as people learned of these new poker rooms.
This sets the stage for the decisive piece to the puzzle. When Chris Moneymaker beats some of the top pros in the game to win the world series of poker Main Event in 2003, the poker boom happens. Qualifying for the tournament thru a $40 online poker room satellite, then winning, completes the sequence.
The combination of the pocket cam drastically adding to the number of people seeing poker on TV, and the surge of web based poker rooms broadening the player base, prepared us for the “Moneymaker” effect. Everyone seeing an internet, amateur rookie player, succeed against some of the best players in the world, poker boomed.
This rapid increase in activity creates a vast amount of business opportunities for poker savvy business people. There are many ways to get rich in the rapidly growing poker world. A lot of these businesses are internet. Let’s list a few of the businesses you might want to start in the poker business world.
