Omaha Hi/Lo Hands That Should Be Let Go

There are a wide variety of Omaha Hi/Lo hands so it can be hard to figure out which hands should be played and which should be folded. It may surprise some to know that there are more hands that should be folded than played.

Regardless of whether you are playing Omaha Hi/Lo or Texas Holdem, if you are truly playing your cards right then you should only be in for the flop about 20% of the time. A lot of players make the error of trying to play nearly every hand, thinking that they are going to hit the good cards on the flop. These players usually spend most of their time losing.

There are of course, some hands that are just obviously bad poker hands. Those are the ones you will be able to easily fold and shouldnt have any problem with. That hands that just do not look good will be instant folds for most people, unless you are one of those people who think it is best to play every single hand because you never know what will come up on the flop. If that is how you think; it is almost sure that you are a losing poker player.

For those who do not think this way and do want to play the best poker they possibly can; there are some hands that could definitely save you some money if you knew that they should be folded. One type of hand that is often misleading in Omaha Hi/Lo is a hand like 4567.

A lot of players think this is a good hand because there are a lot of possibilities to catch a straight. The fact of the matter is that this is not true. There is not a very good chance of catching a straight and most of the time you will have very little chance of having a low hand.

Big Pair Lookout

Many people assume that a high pair hand is automatically a winning hand to go with and dont pay attention to what the pair comes with. Something like KK28 off suit may seem like a great hand but it likely isnt going to add up to anything and you will lose, unless you manage to pick up another king and a pair.

Even with AA, you have to have cards to go along with the AA. Double suited hands with a high pair are a decent place to commence, especially if the other cards along with the pairs are low. It is a big misconception to think that just because you have a high pocket pair in Omaha that you are good to go.

For the most part you should be on the lookout for cards that work well together. This means you should look for cards that are suited together since they will give you a better chance at winning. With suited hands you will have more options available. This will give you better odds of winning the high hand as well as the low hand, so you dont only have to aim to win the low hand. Players who only try to win on low hands are not going to be as successful.

If you can learn to fold these types of hands and play the good ones you will win more then you will lose. Then when you mix that together with some good reads, math, good decisions and all the other things you can do to become better; you will find that making money playing Omaha Hi/Lo is a lot simpler then you thought. The hardest part is getting your game all together and getting everything in the right place. It all starts with letting go of the bad
