A recent survey taken at colleges across the country has revealed something very interesting. It appears that ultimate frisbie is no longer the pastime of choice on campus. It’s poker, and a more interesting fact is, that it is primarily college girls who are playing it. That’s right, college girls.

Traditionally, what comes to mind when thinking of poker are men huddled around the green felt table, smoking, drinking, and swearing. Those scenes are quickly being replaced by 18 to 22 year old college girls going all in and calling each other’s bluff. And these girls mean business and are quite savvy to the game.

Although there aren’t a whole lot of female players in the World Series of Poker, an event that has exponentially increased the popularity of poker, these women players have inspired a whole generation of females to take up the game. Women like Nani Dollison, Jennifer Harman Traniello, and Annie Duke have become iconic heroes to many college girls. Tiffany Emerald from Fordam University says ” I watched alot of these women growing up and just thought they were so cool wearing their sunglasses and mopping the floor with all their male opponents.”

Gambling on college campus used to be discouraged, but has become more accepted over the years. Its probably a good thing too because the poker playing college girls are increasing in their numbers and honing their skills. Expect to see numerous women graduating to World Series of Poker in the near future.
