If you have played poker long enough, I’m sure you’ve been in a situation where you were just a card away from getting a monster hand. Well, there are tested and proven methods that will allow you to complete the monster hands more frequently and will allow you to maximize the money you can get from your opponents when you have these cards. With these techniques, your game will be taken to an entirely new height.

It is very vital to have a clear knowledge of the chances of getting a make card and to know the odds of catching a good draw. Here is an example of a “make card”, let’s suppose, you have 6, 8, 9, 10, a 7 would be a make card.

If you flop an outside straight draw, there are 8 cards that can aid you with a straight. Now if you want an inside straight draw, there is 4 and 9 cards in the deck that can get you a flush draw. Clearly, this can only suggest that you can put more money into outside straight draws and flush draws than you can with inside straight draws.

I always want to get as many cheap cards as I can when I am in a situation like this. Let say, you flop a nut-flush draw and the action checks around to you. Now, you don’t have any clue as to what anyone else has. There are some people who would try to buy the pot by making a strong bet in this situation. This wouldn’t be a good idea because to have a hand worth betting on, you would need to see more cards.

Some players might start slow-playing their cards if you make a big bet. On the other hand, a player with a solid hand will make a raise over your bet. You opt to see one more card with your flush draw despite everyone folding. The turn does you no good and your opponent makes an even larger bet than he previously did, so you either fold and lessen your losses or call the bet with the 20% probability you will catch a card. Neither is desirable.

You will be in the same situation if you call and the final card still doesn’t complete your hand. You can make huge bets to buy your way out of a busted draw but, most likely, a large bet on the river will not scare your opponents except when you have been aggressive all throughout the hand.

You should Stop putting money in the pot just to see that the turn was no good at all! By looking back at your choices prior to the turn card, you get to see the turn for free if you checked. After the turn your opponent makes a huge bet, then you found out that the odds of getting a make card doesn’t merit a call, as a result you did not lose money by folding.

The difference between checking and betting makes the difference between keeping yourself from a bad situation without losing big money and getting pot committed. This means that you lose all early on. Consider to always look for cheap cards when you are looking for another card to complete your hand.

Keep this in mind, when you have finished the hand, you can be assured that it is right time to raise the pot. Other players make big bets when they are on a draw; the reason behind this is to build up the pot when they catch their cards. It is not easy to learn how to play hands when you need a make card, Remember, it will take your game to an entirely new level. But still! Suppose that the cost is $40, and there will only be 2 players in the pot, more often than not, which equals to $80 pot. It still saves you $30 though it’s barely a $20 difference. It is tactics like this that will give other people the notion that you are very lucky and that the gods of poker are sending you there blessings.
